Bio

Fille spirituelle de Steve Reich et Kate Bush, Zoë est une violoncelliste/compositrice installée à San Francisco. Dans son dernier projet 'One Cello × 16', elle superpose le son de son violoncelle et contrôle la composition en temps réel grâce à des pédales reliées à un dispositif électronique. Son premier album solo, 'Natoma', est sorti en septembre 2005.

'One Cello × 16', is an ongoing project in which I layer the natural sound of the cello to create rhythmically dense musical structures. Other than sampling and repetition, I do not manipulate the sound of my acoustic cello in any way.

Née au Canada, Zoë commence à étudier la musique à huit ans. Elle étudie le violoncelle à la Eastman School of Music, au Sarah Lawrence College puis à la Scuola di Musica di Fiesole en Italie. Depuis 1995, elle se consacre exclusivement à des projets "non-classical cello". Elle rejoint Rasputina en 2002 ; ils ont enregistré ensemble 'Frustration Plantation' et 'A Radical Recital'. Un nouvel album est prévu pour 2006.

In 2002, I joined Melora Creager's brilliant and infamous cello-rock outfit, Rasputina. Since then, the band has recorded a studio album, Frustration Plantation, released in 2004, and one live album, slated for release in the spring of 2005.

Zoë a travaillé avec DJ Shadow, John Vanderslice, Tarentel, The Court & Spark, Charles Atlas, Dionysos, Van Gogh's Daughter et the Latin American Chamber Ensemble. Elle compose aussi pour des films indépendants, dont 'Oregon' de Rafael Fernandez, 'Frozen Angels' de Frauke Sandig et Eric Black (Sundance Festival 2005, Nyon 2005) et 'I am a Sex Addict' de Caveh Zahedi (Tribeca Festival 2005).
